Kinect games for PC
With the Kinect for Xbox One, it's easy to play Kinect games on a regular computer with Windows 8.1 or Windows 10. The Kinect sensor for Xbox One can be bought separately, that is, without the Xbox One console. What you do need is an adapter cable to be able to connect the sensor to your computer. The Kinect version 2 sensor is far more easy to use and more accurate than the old version for Xbox 360. And even if you don't play that many games, there are some apps following with the free SDK software that you could have a lot of fun with. For instance, create a 3D scan of yourself or some of your things.
Now we are waiting for the new Kinect for Azure. Microsoft has not yet announced any release date, but it looks as it will even more accurate than Kinect V2 and easier to connect. Of course Mixxus Studio hope it will be possible to update the already made Kinect games for this new Kinect version and also hope there will be several new games to present on this site.
Install software for Kinect from Microsoft
To use the Kinect for Xbox sensor on your PC, you first need to download the necessary software Kinect for Windows SDK 2.0 from microsoft and have an adapter cable
Make sure to check the up to date System Requirements on the Download page
After you installed the SDK software it's pretty easy to check if Kinect is connected and if your placement for playing is good.
- From the Start Menu under "Kinect for Windows SDK v2.0, open the SDK Browser v2.0 (Kinect for Windows).
- To see if the Kinect is connected; Run the top sample "Kinect Configuration Verifier". (Don't worry to soon if the USB check has an exclamation mark, that may just mean the software can't confirm about it's state.)
- To view yourself on the screen with Kinect; Run the third sample from the top "Kinect Studio", Press the Button at the top left corner (where it says "Not connected") to start the Kinect. You should now see Kinect live view in the window screen. If you stand in front of the camera the Kinect should detect your body or "skeleton" points. If you move around you should see where the best place is for you to stand, it's were the sensor easily can get a complete view of you from top to toe, so that the skeleton can follow your movements.
When your installation is complete, start your Kinect Game!
